Top Tens – Top 10 Art of Girls

TOP 10 ART OF GIRLS

Given that in each of my top ten lists for girls I have a section for art and cosplay, in which I pay tribute to my favorite art and cosplay for each entry, it’s only appropriate I have top ten lists for those artists or cosplay models.

Hence, I present to you my Top 10 Art of Girls – which is to say, I present to you my top ten artists for art of girls.

ART & COSPLAY

Well, this might seem very meta – a section for art and cosplay in my Top 10 Art of Girls.

However, there is a method to the madness.

First, it gives me an opportunity to repeat my usual note on the visual images used in these top tens. Given the copyright artists have in their art, I only use visual images as fair use for the purposes of comment and review in each entry – a feature image to identify the artist and their art.

For artists and their art, I have used screenshots of their profile images from X-Twitter, Patreon, or their art websites (or a combination of these).

I was tempted to use their art of a character or characters which I consider to be their most definitive or iconic art but considered that was better done by paying tribute in my usual section on art and cosplay under that subtitle. Normally, that section is one I include in entries in my top ten lists – not for any actual art and cosplay as such but instead where I nominate my favorite artists and cosplay models depicting the character, which you can look up for yourself. If there’s enough of them, I’ll often compile a top ten on the spot.

However, in the art and cosplay section in this top ten (and special or honorable mentions), it’s the reverse. That is, for each artist, I nominate my favorite subjects for their art – that is, my favorite characters or class of characters (such as comics or video games) in their art, particularly any distinctive or iconic characters as definitive subjects for their art, as well as their own original characters.

As for the title feature image I’ve used for this page, I made a collage of Roy Lichtenstein’s 1964 painting “Ohhh…Alright…”(right) and its source from a panel of “Secret Hearts” #88 June 1963 by Arleigh Comics (now DC Comics) as part of my running theme for feature images in my art of girls lists.

(10) MAGION02

As per their X Twitter profile – “Digital artist, character designer, comics artist”.

As per their Patreon about page – “My name’s Magion02 and I’m a digital illustrator based on the Mysterious Island of Borneo. I’m a freelance artist and I spend most of my recreational time creating Anime/Game Illustrations, Original Characters, Manga/Comics, and Fan arts.”

ART & COSPLAY

For the iconic feature image, I’ve used a screenshot from Magion02’s Patreon “about me” page.

Magion does a wide range of characters, notably including original characters commissioned for the Final Fantasy video game. I’ll also give a shoutout as one of the few of my favorite artists to have done Asuna from Blue Archive – and in her bunny girl version too!

(9) KIKO L

As per their X Twitter profile – “Freelance illustrator”.

As per their Patreon about page – “Hello – I’m Kiko L. When I grew up a little bit as a middle school student, I was told I was gifted in fine art so that I finally made up my mind to consider drawing as not only one of my hobbies but also the profession I’ll count on. Later on I was admitted to Central Academy of Fine Art. Starting from college life, I’ve learned and attempted several styles including oil painting, fine art education and digital art. And turns out it seems that digital illustrator would be a nice choice for me.”

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature images, I’ve used a screenshot from Kiko L’s Patreon “about me” page (which I quoted above).

Kiko tends to focus on characters from video games or anime, including some of my favorite art of those characters.

As my favorite subjects for their art, here’s a top ten on the spot

1 – Tifa Lockhart (and Final Fantasy in general)

2 – D.Va  (and Overwatch in general)

3 – One Piece

4 – Cyberpunk Edgerunners

5 – Chainsaw Man

6 – Marin Kitagawa

7 – Yor Forger

8 – Frieren

9 – Honkai Star Rail

10 – Zenless Zone Zero

Special mention

1 – Asuna (Blue Archive)**

2 – Morrigan Aensland**

3 – Shadowheart

4 – 2B, A2 & Kaine (Nier Automata)**

5 – Samus Aran**

6 – Yumeko Jabami (Kakegurui)

7 – Elsa

Also, Kiko does OC art.

(8) NEOARTCORE

As per their X Twitter profile, “Digital Painting Artist”.

As per their Patreon about page – “I’m NeoArtCorE, Illustrator from Thailand. I currently creating freelance artworks for games and illustrations. I’m really love drawings and paintings. I paint artwork everyday not only for works but also as a hobby.”

ART & COSPLAY

Most diverse content of any artist – comics, video games, anime, animation, cinematic fantasy & SF

(7) DAVID NAKAYAMA

Unlike the entries for freelance artists so far, David Nakayama is an “industry” artist for comics – with his own Wikipedia entry and art website. He’s an artist that I see as influenced by my upcoming third place entry and with a similar style, indeed collaborating with that artist on at least one occasion for charity. He’s an American artist – born in Honolulu, presumably with Japanese ancestry if I’ve inferred that correctly from his surname – and works with the big American comics, with his moniker signature DNA.

As per his Wikipedia entry – “David Nakayama…is an American concept artist and comic book artist… breaking into the industry at Top Cow Productions…He went on to produce work for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, where he has illustrated covers for Batman, Harley Quinn, and Wonder Woman.”

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used the cover of the Marvel Art of David Nakayama book as sold on Amazon.

As for my favorite subjects of his art, they follow his cover art work

(1) Wonder Woman

(2) Harley Quinn

(3) Catwoman

(4) X-women

(5) Mary Jane

Special mention:

Witchblade & Goldilocks

(6) ELIAS CHATZOUDIS

As per Elias’ X Twitter profile – “Professional illustrator, working for several comic companies such as Dynamite Entertainment, Zenescope Entertainment, Aspen Comics, Archie Comics and more”.

Like David Nakayama, Elias Chatzoudis is an “industry” artist for comics, surprisingly without his own Wikipedia entry given how prolific he is, but with his own art website.

According to his Dynamite Entertainment fan wiki entry, he “is a comic artist known for his female forms…also known as the Greek God of Pinup Girls”.

Born in Athens, he studied graphic design before becoming an artist, graphic designer, and illustrator for American magazines or comics – “a cover artist based in USA since 2015” in his about page on his website.

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used a screenshot from his art website with a representative collage of art – showcasing his most prevalent subject at the top of the following list…

(1) Vampirella

(2) Red Sonja

(3) Lady Death

But really, he’s depicted one of the most diverse range of “pinup girls” from popular culture – not just comics but video games, anime, animation and screen fantasy or SF. I mean, when he’s done pinup art of Isabella Rossellini’s character (Lisle von Rhuman) from the 1992 film Death Becomes Her, you know he has a diverse subject range.

(5) NATHAN SZERDY

“Nathan Szerdy is an acclaimed American comic book artist and illustrator best known for his striking variant covers for major publishers like DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, and IDW Publishing. Based out of Daytona Beach, Florida, his distinct art style seamlessly blends elements of classic pin-up art, silhouette work, and comic realism.”

What makes his art particularly entertaining is its playfulness, including his signature themes – “tattoo” variants (featuring the characters with tattoos, with the tattoos as further art or visual gags or both), his “Zirtzy Girlz” collectibles, art in the style of pinup characters, and so on.

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used a screenshot of the three panels used as an introductory sample of art on his art website

As for my favorite subjects of his art

(1) Vampirella – by far the standout, with his usual of striking visual effects such as blood or lighting

(2) Harley Quinn

(3) Poison Ivy

(4) Wonder Woman

(5) Supergirl

(6) Batgirl

(7) Black Cat

(8) Zatanna

(4) SUN KHAMUNAKI

What better summary of Sun Khamunaki art than her own “about me” bio on her art website?

“Sun Khamunaki is a Canadian comic creator, illustrator, and pin-up artist, best known for her blend of fantasy, horror, and visual storytelling. As the founder and creative force behind Obscura Comics, Sun is the creator of several original titles and IPs, including Pumpkin, Becca Boo, Hail Mary, Martian Woman, Ormus, and more, expanding her artistic vision into fully realized worlds and characters.

Sun first gained widespread recognition for her cover work with Coffin Comics, bringing her signature aesthetic to Lady Death…Her portfolio quickly grew to include covers for Zenescope Entertainment…Dynamite Entertainment…and DC Comics, where she rendered acclaimed covers for Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey…”

The standout is perhaps her work for Zenescope (and her own label Obscura), featuring “cosplay” images for video games, film, and television.

She gets bonus points for actually looking like one of the characters in her art.

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used the cover of the first volume of her Art of Sun Khamunaki collection, sold through her website.

As for my favorite subjects of her art

(1) Any of her Zenescope art

(2) Lady Death

(3) Vampirella

(4) Red Sonja

(5) Poison Ivy

(6) Any of her OC Obscura art

(3) J. SCOTT CAMPBELL

Nothing short of a god of art in the comics book industry, yet despite this acclaim and fame – particularly for his pinup art – he remains one of the nicest guys in the industry with his social media interactions or profile. And while he is famed for his pinup art, he pretty much can draw any subject.

As per his Wikipedia page, Jeffery Scott Campbell “is an American comic book artist…best known as J. Scott Campbell. He rose to fame as an artist for Wildstorm comics, though he has since done work for Marvel Comics (most notably as a cover artist on The Amazing Spider-Man, and the video game industry”.

As per his X Twitter profile – “Artist of Marvel & DC comics, Creator of Danger Girl & Fairytale Fantasies, worked w/ Sideshow collectibles, Disney, & more!”

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used a screenshot from his art website (and online shop) for his Marvel Swimsuit calendar – among many I could have used from his website, endlessly fascinating as it is to browse, or for that matter from his art books or Fairytale Fantasy calendars.

As for my favorite subjects of his art, this is a work in progress (given his diverse range of subjects, all of which he depicts superbly) and not really in any order except perhaps for the first entry…

(1) Mary Jane – still his signature subject in my opinion

(2) Wonder Woman

(3) Catwoman

(4) Black Cat

(5) Magik

(6) Rogue

Special mention

(1) Fairytale Fantasies

(2) His OC Danger Girl

(3) Gen 13 – Caitlin Fairchild

Campbell is exceeded only by two freelance digital artists whose art I fell in love with since I first saw it in social media and has enraptured me ever since…

S-TIER (GOD TIER)

Cropped representative screenshot of artwork as advertized on her Patreon for February 2025 – Black Lagoon’s Revy and Marvel’s Luna Snow in Dandonfuga’s characteristic style, including speech bubble (fair use)

(2) DANDONFUGA

“Dandonfuga is a popular digital illustrator and independent artist. She is best known for creating pin-up style drawings, fan art, and stylized illustrations focusing primarily on strong and muscular female characters…Her artwork blends anime aesthetics with semi-realism, frequently featuring characters from popular franchises like Marvel, DC Comics, and Overwatch”

ART & COSPLAY

For iconic feature image, I’ve used a cropped representative screenshot of artwork as advertized on her Patreon.

As for my favorite subjects of her art, this is a work in progress and not in particular order…

(1) Wonder Woman

(2) Harley Quinn

(3) Zatanna

(4) Poison Ivy

(5) Black Cat

(6) Batgirl

(7) Lara Croft

(8) Tifa Lockhart

(9) Mai Shiranui

(10) Marin Kitagawa (art of that classic bust-measuring scene from the anime)

Special mention:

(1) OC characters like Bubble

Screenshot of the representative banner art from his Patreon – and yes, his OC Chloe is there (in kimono), as well as Tifa Lockhart (fair use)

(1) SCIAMANO

Apparently his artist name translates from Italian as shaman…and that just seems to fit.

“Sciamano (most commonly known online as Sciamano240) is the alias of Mirco, a highly popular Italian freelance digital illustrator specialising in pin-up styled fan art. He is best known across the global art community for his vibrant, stylized depictions of female characters from video games, anime, and pop culture…Core Subject Matter: Female anime, manga, and video game characters, along with original character (OC) designs like his pink-haired character, Chloe”.

Although his X Twitter profile probably says it best – “Italian digital artist. I like drawing ladies.”

I first came across his art with his Azur Lane fan art of Atago and thereafter kept coming across it as every time I saw art on social media that left me breathless, sure enough I’d check the signature and see it was his.

ART & COSPLAY

What better as iconic feature art than a screenshot of the representative banner art from his Patreon – and yes, his OC Chloe is there (in kimono).

As for my favorite subjects of his art, they’re all my favorite. If I didn’t know the subject of his art before seeing it, they became favorites. But if I had to choose, then here’s my top ten on the spot (although not really ranked in any particular order except the first two)

(1) Azur Lane – Atago. My first and still my favorite subject of his art I’ve seen is his Azur Lane art in general and Atago in particular

(2) Tifa Lockhart – no one quite draws Tifa like Sciamano, with my favorite being of her as Italian MP to commemorate her mention in Italian Parliament

(3) Genshin Impact (in general)

(4) Ahri

(5) 2B

(6) Blue Archive – Rio

(7) Marin Kitagawa

(8) Lara Croft

(9) Eve

(10) Nikke – Rapi

Special mention

(1) All his OCs but especially Chloe
