And that’s how light-hearted I’ll keep my final or twentieth special mention, which I like to reserve for a light-hearted kinky entry, because as with most things concerning imperialism, it can get a lot darker – essentially its primary connotation as yet another vector for imperial exploitation.

Outside that connotation, there are the more collaborative liaisons between imperial citizens and subjects throughout history – as with La Malinche, alternatively Malintzin or Marina, Cortes’ co-conquistador who was an instrumental part of the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs.
